What are signs of a serious head injury?

On Behalf of | Jun 12, 2017 | Truck Accidents

Kentucky drivers who get into accidents with trucks may be more susceptible to severe injuries than those who get into crashes with vehicles that are smaller or similarly sized. For this reason, you should keep an eye out for signs of possible severe head injury.

Mayo Clinic differentiates between mild and moderate or severe brain injury, with two separate sets of symptoms for both. If the damage is more severe, you will likely experience symptoms that are a bit easier to notice. For example, intense nausea or repeated vomiting may occur. Seizures are also somewhat common, as is a lack of coordination. You may also experience difficulty moving your limbs or extremities. In regard to emotional changes, it’s likely that increased aggression or confusion may follow.

It is important to note that symptoms of severe head injuries may not necessarily appear soon after the injury itself has occurred. In fact, some symptoms can take days to appear, even if the injury is large or life-threatening. Therefore, you shouldn’t be considered “out of the woods” if you don’t show any symptoms immediately following an accident. Careful monitoring should occur for at least several days after the event, and perhaps even longer.

Head injuries of any sort can be life-threatening and are almost always frightening to deal with. If you have experienced a head injury due to a truck accident and believe that it may be serious, it may be best for you to keep an eye on it and seek professional medical attention if and when you feel it to be necessary.
