Wrong-way drugged driver hits pickup truck

Drivers in Kentucky often associated impaired driving with drinking. However, the consumption of alcohol is not the only thing that can result in a driver being unable to safely and legally operate a motor vehicle. Driving while under the influence of drugs is also a problem that can plague the roads and put innocent people at risk unnecessarily. An example of this can be seen in a wreck that happened recently in Williamsburg.

How many drivers are distracted by cell phones?

The digital age has transformed the way people live, from social interactions to conducting business. In many ways, smartphones and other technological advancements have improved lives significantly. Unfortunately, technology also has downsides, such as leading to more drivers becoming distracted by their gadgets. Whether you use a cell phone regularly or are worried about the likelihood of being struck by someone on their phone, it is important to look over statistics on how prevalent distracted driving due to cell phones really is.

Drunk driver's appeal denied by Supreme Court

Especially at this time of the year people in Kentucky may hear a lot about drunk driving and local law enforcement agencies step up their patrol efforts to nab drunk drivers who refuse to find other means of transportation to attend their holiday events where they will consume alcohol. Many people may also sometimes feel frustrated when they hear stories about these drivers not spending time in jail after they kill or permanently disable someone else.

Vehicular fatalities in Kentucky

You and your friends and family in Kentucky have no doubt heard your share of reports detailing serious car accidents that result in the loss of human life. Despite better safety features and even accident prevention features built into new automobiles along with strict laws about things like drinking and driving, too many people continue to be killed in senseless wrecks that need not ever happen. Just how many people die every year in car accidents statewide?

Risks about due to drunk drivers at Thanksgiving

For Kentucky residents, many things can contribute to an increased risk of being in a motor vehicle accident. Driving during after sunset or before sunrise especially on dimly lit roads or roads with no lighting at all can make it harder for people to see potential dangers and avoid them. Inclement weather can also impede visibility as well as reaction times or capabilities as tires can slide on ice or slippery roads.

Reviewing Kentucky's dram shop law

Richmond residents are likely well aware of how dangerous a drunk driver can be. They may not know, however, exactly how costly a collision caused by such a driver can come out to. Information shared by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that drunk driving accidents result in a average of $44 billion in annual costs. Often, an individual accident victim may find that insurance coverage is not enough to deal with the expenses he or she is left to face. The question then becomes who else (if anyone) beyond the driver that struck him or her can be held liable.

Reviewing the concept of negligent entrustment

No one in Richmond ever anticipates being involved in a car accident, yet when one is, he or she likely holds out hope that the insurance of the responsible driver (and/or his or her own) will cover whatever expenses are associated with it. Yet in severe accidents, even the assistance offered by insurers may not be enough to meet the cost of repairs and medical bills (not to mention the emotional grief one has to go through in the immediate aftermath). In such a case, one might have little choice but to seek added compensation from the driver responsible for causing his or her accident. The question whether that person is the only one who can be held liable.

Driving distracted: a dangerous choice

The issue of car crashes due to distracted driving is not only serious, but is one that is on the rise. Any amount of driving on public roads comes with some level of risk, and Kentucky in particular sees a significant number of crashes related to distraction of varying types. On top of unwanted expenses and car repairs, crashes can have dangerous and even fatal consequences that are often forgotten during day-to-day distractions.

Accident claims rise with pot use

Kentucky drivers who may be taking to the road this summer on their vacation journeys and who may be driving to an area where marijuana is allowed to be used recreationally will want to pay special attention to signs of potentially impaired drivers. To date, Massachusetts, Maine, the District of Columbia, Alaska, Nevada, Colorado and all three west coast states have legalized pot for recreational purposes. However, that does not mean drivers are supposed to get behind the wheel of a car after consuming the drug yet it seems that many may be doing just that.

New phone technology aims to curb distracted driving

When a car accident occurs in Richmond, Kentucky, it can be life altering for those who suffer injuries. Recovering from a crash can be expensive and lengthy. Unfortunately, many accidents result from people engaging in behaviors that distract them while they are behind the wheel.
